Acknowledging the disadvantages of underclass status, RJR concluded that, although health may be a concern, Blacks simply have more pressing concerns than smoking issues. The implication is that this market, with its myriad socioeconomic pressures, should remain reliable consumers even if they are aware of tobacco's health risks.
