How to Apply Vinyl Decals — Step by Step

Every decal we ship is die-cut vinyl with transfer tape — no background, just the design. Applying it takes about 5 minutes. You’ll only need soapy water or isopropyl alcohol, a lint-free cloth and an old plastic card.

IMPORTANT: apply your decal in a warm environment (10–30 °C). NEVER apply decals in cold conditions! In winter, warm the surface slightly first.
Cleaning and degreasing the surface before applying a vinyl decal

Step 1

Clean the surface

Clean and degrease the spot where the decal will go — soapy water first, then a wipe of isopropyl alcohol. Dust, wax or grease is the #1 reason decals lift at the edges.

Step 2

Press everything down

Press all letters and shapes down firmly with a squeegee or a credit card. If you skip this, some graphics may stay on the backing paper in the next step.

Step 3

Peel off the backing

Carefully peel off the backing paper at a sharp angle — this keeps the letters and shapes on the transfer film. If any element comes off with the backing, lay it back down and repeat step 2.

Step 4

Stick it & smooth it

Stick the decal where you want it and get rid of air bubbles by pressing with the squeegee or card, working from the centre towards the edges.

Step 5

Remove the transfer film

Remove the transfer film gently and slowly — peel it back flat against the surface, not straight up. If the vinyl lifts, stop, press that area again and continue.

Done!

All done 🙂

That’s it! Wait 24–48 hours before washing the car or exposing the decal to rain — after that it’s fully weatherproof for 7+ years.

Pro tips

Removing a decal

Warm it with a hairdryer, lift a corner with your fingernail and peel slowly at a flat angle. Remove any adhesive residue with isopropyl alcohol — no damage to paint or glass.
