The rear window is the most underrated piece of real estate on a car. It’s flat, it’s glass, it’s at eye level for every driver queuing behind you – and it’s the perfect place to tell the world which side of the pit wall you’re on. If you’re an F1 fan looking for a car window sticker that looks sharp and lasts, this guide covers what to pick, where to put it and how to fit it without bubbles.
Why glass is the best surface for an F1 sticker
Paint gets polished, waxed and machine-washed. Glass mostly gets wiped. That makes a window one of the easiest places for a vinyl decal to live a long, quiet life. It also has a few other advantages:
- It’s perfectly smooth, so the adhesive grips evenly with no texture to fight.
- It comes off cleanly when you change cars or switch allegiances (we won’t judge).
- It shows off die-cut designs brilliantly, because there’s no background – just the shape against the glass.
Our decals are cut from outdoor-grade vinyl rated for 7+ years, so sun, rain and winter on a window are well within what they’re built for.
The best F1-style window sticker ideas
1. Your race number
Simple, bold and instantly readable from a distance. A single number in a strong racing font works on almost any car. Pick one that means something – your favourite driver’s, or the one you’d run if you ever got the seat.
2. Circuit silhouettes
A track outline is a subtle nod that true fans recognise immediately. Spa, Monza, Suzuka, Silverstone – the shapes are iconic. In white on a dark rear window it looks clean and understated.
3. Name tag in race-car style
The driver’s name above the door window, just like on a race car, is a classic. It works on the rear side glass or the top of the windscreen strip area (check what’s allowed where you live – more on that below). Our personalised decals are cut to order with your own text.
4. Chequered flag and racing stripes
A chequered flag corner piece or a set of thin speed stripes across the bottom of the rear window adds motion without blocking your view. These look especially good in a contrasting colour. For more ready-made designs, browse our racing decals.
Choosing size and colour
We cut every design in 11 sizes from 10 to 45 cm, and in up to 14 colours. A few rules of thumb for windows:
- Rear window, centre or corner: 15–30 cm is the sweet spot – big enough to read, small enough to keep your view clear.
- Rear side windows (quarter glass): 10–15 cm usually fits best.
- Full-width stripes or name banners: go larger, but measure the glass first and keep away from the heated rear-screen elements if you can.
Colour matters more on glass than on paint. White is the most visible on tinted windows, while black or dark colours suit clear glass on light-coloured cars.
Inside or outside the glass?
A die-cut decal with adhesive on the back goes on the outside of the window, so the design reads correctly to everyone behind you. Outside application also means the sticker sits on top of any factory tint rather than fighting with it. If you have a rear wiper, keep the decal outside its sweep.
Check local rules before you stick
Rules on what you can put on car glass vary by country. Generally, the windscreen and the front side windows are the most restricted areas because they affect the driver’s view. The rear window and rear quarter glass are usually far more relaxed, but it’s always worth checking your local regulations before applying anything large.
How to apply a window sticker like a pro
- Clean the glass with soapy water, then wipe with isopropyl alcohol to remove grease and residue.
- Position the decal with its transfer tape still on and mark it with a strip of masking tape across the top (the hinge method).
- Peel the backing and lower the decal onto the glass, squeegeeing from the centre outwards.
- Peel the transfer tape slowly at a sharp angle, folding it back on itself.
- Leave it 24–48 hours before washing or running the wipers over it.
Every order includes transfer tape and application instructions, so you don’t need anything special.

Frequently asked questions
Will a vinyl sticker damage my car window?
No. Vinyl decals sit on top of the glass and peel off without harming it. Any leftover adhesive can be removed with isopropyl alcohol or a dedicated adhesive remover.
Can I use the rear wiper and heated rear screen with a decal on?
Yes, once the decal has had 24–48 hours to bond. For the longest life, place it outside the wiper’s sweep and avoid scraping over it with an ice scraper in winter.
What size F1 sticker is best for a rear window?
For most cars, 15–30 cm is ideal for a central or corner placement. Smaller quarter windows usually suit 10–15 cm. We offer 11 sizes from 10 to 45 cm.
Do you ship F1 window stickers worldwide?
Yes – we ship worldwide with tracking from £2, and shipping is free on orders over £35.
